RULES & GUIDELINES.

quantum acrobatics 2020
just for acro dancers.

GENERAL RULES.

 

•   Dancers must be registered with a studio. No independent entries will be accepted.
•   Entries will not be processed until full payment is received.
•   Soloists may enter themselves only once per category. 
•   Duo and trio dancers must have a change of partners to compete twice in the same category.
•   Solo, duos and trios are all eligible for high score awards without having to be in a group.
•   Levels are calculated based hours of all gymnastic/acrobatic instruction per week - all acro class time to be included.
•   Re-dances are permitted in Novice and Intermediate categories only. Re-dances are permitted in all categories due to technical problems or anything not of the dancer’s fault.
•   Categories may be combined or separated based on entries received and at the discretion of event management.
•   There is no sprung floor provided. Stage will have regular Marley flooring. 

 

 

ENTRY INFORMATION.

•   Entry deadline is December 15th, 2019
•   Entry fees are non-refundable.
•   We reserve the right to refuse entries.
•   Studios must pay by business cheque, money order or email transfer. Personal cheques will not be accepted - strictly enforced.
•   Entries will not be processed until full payment is received.
•   Entries will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. We welcome all early submissions. Please note - entries received prior to deadline might not be accepted if the event is full.
•   Each late entry is to pay a $15 surcharge and will be accepted only if the schedule permits.

•   Entry fees do not include GST.

•   Choreography, props and music selections must be appropriate for family viewing.
•   Schedule sent to email provided on registration account at least 4 weeks prior to event. Please ensure email provided is correct.
•   Please note - Confirmation email from online submission does not guarantee entry. Email from our team confirming space and payment received secures your place.
•   Dancer information (season started training date & hours per week) can only be entered once. If a correction is needed, please contact us. Thank you in advance for ensuring all entries are accurate.  Inaccurate entries may be subject to penalties.

CATEGORIES.

 
SOLO  •  1 Performer
DUO/TRIO  •  2 or 3 Performers
GROUPS  •  4 or More Performers
 
 
ADULT  •  2 or More Performers are 19+ or the average age is 19+
PRODUCTION  •  Min. 20 Performers

ADULT  •  Any routine where the average age of all dancers is 19-29 or 30+. Routines may be any acro dance form. Solo/Duo/Trios – ONE or more dancers aged 19 and over.  Groups - TWO or more dancers aged 19 and over OR the average age of all dancers is 19 and over.  Categories will be split depending on number of entries and at the discretion of event management.

Trophies and monetary awards will be given to the Adult category according to the following:
5 or less entries – 1st high score trophy is awarded.
6-10 entries – 1st high score trophy and $100 is awarded to highest scoring performance.
11+ entries - Top 10 list, 1st – 4th high score trophies, and monetary prizes are awarded ($50 - $100).

 

PRODUCTION  •  Minimum of 20 dancers. Productions are a minimum of 5 minutes and a have a maximum time limit of 15 minutes with dancers of any age and level incorporating any and all styles of dance.  A theme or story is to be portrayed throughout the entire dance. There is a maximum of 5 minutes for combined setup and take down.  Production routines are eligible for high score awards within their own category (no advancement to the Peak Challenge).

 

Trophies and monetary awards will be given to the Adult category according to the following:

5 or less entries – 1st high score trophy is awarded.

6-10 entries – 1st high score trophy and $100 is awarded to highest scoring performance.

11+ entries - Top 10 list, 1st – 4th high score trophies, and monetary prizes are awarded ($50 - $100).

ALL CATEGORIES:

•   Choreography may contain props, touching, lip syncing and floor work in all categories.
•   ANYTHING GOES - Contortion, tumbling, pyramiding, rhythmic, circus and of course acrobatics.
•   Soloists may enter themselves only once per category.
•   Duo and trio dancers must have a change of partners to compete twice in the same category.
•   Categories may be combined or separated based on entries received and at the discretion of event management.
•   Adult: Any routine where the average age of all dancers is 19-29 or 30+. Solo/Duo/Trios – ONE or more dancers aged 19 and over.  Groups - TWO or more dancers aged 19 and over OR the average age of all dancers is 19 and over. Categories will be split depending on number of entries.

LEVELS.

 

Include gymnastic/acrobatic training hours ONLY. Registration system will calculate the average of all dancers.

NOVICE   •    0 - 3 years of training completed ( Sept 2016 or later ) & less than 3 hrs/week. No min. age 
INTERMEDIATE   •   0 - 3 years of training completed ( Sept 2016 or earlier ) & 3+ hrs/week. No min. age 
OR
INTERMEDIATE   •   3.25 - 6 years of training completed ( Sept 2013-2016 ) & less than 3 hrs/week. No min. age 
ADVANCED   •   3 - 6 years of training completed ( Sept 2013-2016 ) & 3+ hrs/week. Min. age 12
OR
ADVANCED   •   Over 6 years of training completed ( Sept 2012 or earlier ) & less than 3 hrs/week. Min. age 12
ACCELERATED   •   Over 6 years of training completed ( Sept 2012 or earlier ) & 3+ hrs/week Min. age 12
ADULT   •   Solo/Duo/Trio - ONE or more dancers aged 19+. Groups - TWO or more dancers aged 19+ OR the average age of all dancers is 19 and over.

MORE INFO:

•   Gymnastics hours HAVE to be included in the consideration of ALL levels, combined with acrobatic class hours.

•   Dancer cannot go down in hours or levels when leaving from gym training to acrobatic training. (If 4 yrs completed and have had 4 hrs gym training and now it’s your 1st year of acrobatics – still in ADVANCED/ACCELERATED because of previous training)
•   Inaccurate entries may be subject to penalties.

•   Registration system will calculate the average of all dancers. When entering 'Season started training' consider all forms of non-competitive and competitive training. The season selected should be actual and include the years previous to age 5 if necessary.

•   When entering 'Hours per week' consider all forms of non-competitive and competitive training, including technique and regularly scheduled private sessions.

•   Please ensure to enter dancers' maximum hours danced per week and not their current hours per week if they have recently decreased.
•   Dancers may not enter a lesser level than previously danced in at Quantum.

•   Training received before age 5 is no included. The system will consider the years of training before age 5. No need to revise the date upon entry.
•   Levels are subject to change because of age (12 and under or 12 and over)

AGE DIVISIONS.

 

•   The system will calculate division using dancer’s age as of DECEMBER 31, 2019.
•   Duos, trios, and groups - the system will add and average the age of all the dancers (looking at the first decimal, if applicable) to round to the nearest whole number (12.4 = 12/ 12.5 = 13).
•   Age Divisions may be combined or separated based on entries received and at the discretion of event management.
•   If two or more dancers in a routine are aged 19 years and over they must enter and perform in the Adult Category OR if the average age of all dancers in a routine is 19 and over.

JUDGING/AWARDS.

 

•   Three qualified, experienced adjudicators specializing in Acrobatics with minimum 10 years teaching experience.
•   Final marks are the average of the adjudicators’ scores.
•   Each routine will receive typed comment sheets from the adjudicators with their scores. Adjudication sheets are provided electronically to studio owners at the end of each level via Dropbox.
•   1st, 2nd, 3rd and Performance placements are given in each category and are awarded on stage to each dancer.
•   Awards Sessions to be held at least 3 times per day.
•   Awards will be upload to the website if there is internet available at the venue. If not, the results will be upload within a couple days.


HIGH SCORE AWARDS   •  High Score Awards will be presented at the completion of each level. Trophies and cash awarded.

TOP TEN AWARDS   •  Top Tens are announced (in order of score) once 10 numbers in the high score category have performed. Updates are announced throughout the event. Final Top 10s are announced at the end of each level and receive a certificate for their studio.

CHOREOGRAPHY AWARDS   •  One per award session from the adjudicators to recognize outstanding choreography. All winners are entered into a draw to win cash prizes at the end of the event.

SPIRIT AWARDS   •  Three performances are chosen by the adjudicators at each award session that show amazing energy, excitement and enthusiasm for dance. All Spirit Award winners are entered into a draw to win a $200 Pizza Party for their studio.

JUDGE'S PICK AWARDS   •  One performer per session is chosen by the adjudicators to give more recognition to more dancers. Performer is selected based on something special seen in them – such as “sharing your passion”, “amazing facial expressions”, “fantastic unique style” and more. Dancers receive a special Judge’s Pick t-shirt and a certificate signed by the judges!

•   The Quantum Challenge is held at the end of the event featuring the highest scoring numbers of the competition to compete for more awards!
•   Novice/Intermediate and Advanced/Accelerated have their own sections in The Quantum Challenge with their own sets of awards and trophies placing 1st - 4th.
•   The top 2 winners of The Quantum Challenge Advanced/Accelerated section, are then invited to perform at the
Provincial Honours Performance in May at the Hard Rock Casino Theatre in Coquitlam, BC.

 

MUSIC/TIME LIMITS.

MUSIC

•   Teachers or a studio representative are responsible for playing music on equipment provided by the competition.  Unless music has been previously uploaded at registration through DanceComp Genie.
•   Music can be uploaded/changed until 24 hours before performing.
•   Please be sure to carry backup copies of all music.
•   CD and iPod connection will be available.

•   Any questions or concerns, please find the backstage manager or event staff.

TIME LIMITS

SOLOS, DUOS, TRIOS  •   3 minutes          GROUPS  •   5 minutes          PRODUCTION  •   15 minutes  

•   Dancers are timed from the first note of the music until the last dancer exits the stage.
•   All dances are timed by a Quantum timer.
•   Overtime entries may be subject to penalties and will not be eligible for High score awards.
•   Please ensure prop set-up and take-down is prompt.
•   Maximum 5 mins for set-up and take down for Productions.

 

AUDIENCE/DANCER

INFORMATION.

•   Admission for audience is $3 per day. Programs are free.
•   Dancers are FREE for the entire event.
•   At the request of event choreographers there is absolutely NO camera or video equipment of any kind used in the theatre. No exceptions to this rule.
•   Professional photographers and/or videographers will be at the event if possible.
•   Doors to theatre will open 30 minutes prior to the start of each day.
•   Doors to the dressing rooms and lobby will open one hour prior to the start of each day.
•   Awards will be posted on our website from the event if wireless internet is available.
•   Please encourage and support all dancers.

DIRECTOR/TEACHER

 

INFORMATION.

•   A green room with coffee and light meals will be provided to all registered teachers and studio directors.
•   If possible, we will provide a monitor of the stage in the green room.
•   Please sign in at the front desk upon arrival at the event. If your name is not found on the list please find your studio director.
•   Admission and program complimentary for all registered teachers and studio directors.
•   Teachers are responsible for playing their own music on equipment provided by the competition, unless previously uploaded through DanceComp Genie.  Both CD and iPod connections available. Please be sure to carry backup copies of all music.
•   Event directors are always on site to answer your questions.
•   Adjudication sheet are provided to studios only after each high score award session via shared Dropbox folders. Studio directors may authorize (in writing only) more representatives to receive adjudication sheets.
